Awards

In 2010, the EEA Council, agreed unanimously to institute a prize to a European-based female economist who has made a significant contribution to the Economics profession. The Award is named after Birgit Grodal, the first female elected President of the EEA, but who sadly passed away before she took up her presidency. The Award is given once every two years (even years).

In 1991, the EEA created a medal to be awarded once every two years (even years) to the author(s) of an outstanding article published in the Association’s Journal during the two preceding years. It is named Hicks-Tinbergen to make it clear that the EEA stands for both theoretical and empirical work in economics in Europe.

The EEA bestows the Young Economist Award to the authors no more than 3 years past a PhD defence of outstanding papers presented during contributed sessions of the EEA annual congress.

In 1993, the Finnish Yrjö Jahnsson Foundation established a biennial award for a European economist no older than 45 years old who has made a contribution in theoretical and applied research that is significant to economics in Europe. The EEA cooperates with the Yrjö Jahnsson Foundation in the selection of the award winners.
